A Little Boy Who Wanted a Family

Sometimes people ask me where the idea for Impact1More came from. They expect me to talk about a business plan, a ministry strategy, or the day I decided to start a nonprofit. The truth is, the story began long before there was an organization. It began with a little boy who desperately wanted what most children never have to think about. A family. A place to belong. Someone to believe in him.

I grew up in a government orphanage in Latvia. People often ask me what it was like. The truth is, I don't remember every day. But I remember the feeling. I remember wondering what it would be like to have someone waiting for me. Someone who would ask how my day was. Someone who would tell me I was loved without expecting anything in return. Someone who would simply say... "Welcome home." If you've always had a family, those moments can seem ordinary. When you've never had one... They're everything.

Aging Out: The Fear No One Talks About

When I was seventeen years old, another reality began weighing on my heart. I was one year away from aging out of the orphanage. Those words sound simple. They weren't. For many teenagers, turning eighteen is exciting. It's graduation. College. A first apartment. Parents helping you move. Phone calls asking if you made it home safely. For many young people leaving orphanage care, turning eighteen means stepping into adulthood without the support system most of us take for granted.

While every story is different, many face enormous challenges as they try to build stable lives. Some experience homelessness. Others become vulnerable to exploitation, unhealthy relationships, addiction, or other hardships while searching for security, acceptance, and somewhere to belong.

The greatest fear wasn't simply being without a place to sleep. It was wondering... "Who will care if I fall?" "Who will answer the phone?" "Who will tell me everything is going to be okay?" Every person longs for more than survival. We long to belong.

What People Saw vs. What God Saw

At the time, people looked at my life and made assumptions. Some saw an orphan. Some saw limitations. Some believed my past had already decided my future. I don't blame them. People often make decisions based on what they can see. But God has never been limited by what people can see. While others saw an orphan... God saw a son. While others saw uncertainty... God was preparing purpose. While I wondered if anyone knew my name... God had already placed it on someone else's heart.

A Family Praying Five Thousand Miles Away

What I didn't know was that nearly five thousand miles away, in the United States, there was a family praying. Not for themselves. For me. A teenager they had never met. They prayed that God would guide my life. They prayed for healing from wounds they couldn't see. I knew nothing about those prayers. Looking back, that may be my favorite part of the story. Because while I was lying awake wondering where my future would be... God was already preparing it. Long before I stepped onto an airplane... He was preparing a family. Long before I spoke English... He was preparing teachers. Long before I ever imagined leading a ministry... He was preparing people who would shape my life through simple acts of faithfulness. That's how God often works. He is already moving before we recognize His hand.

Redeemed, Not Erased

Coming to the United States changed my life. Not because I came to America. Because I experienced something I had prayed for without even knowing how to put it into words. I attended a Christian high school. I learned a new language. I adapted to a new culture. There were moments when I felt behind everyone else.

Moments when my accent reminded me I was different. Moments when my past seemed impossible to explain. But every challenge became another reminder that God wasn't asking me to erase my past. He was redeeming it. Years later, I graduated from college. Then I completed my MBA in Management. Sometimes I stop and think about that seventeen-year-old boy who believed he might soon be alone. If I could sit beside him today, I wouldn't tell him everything God was about to do. I'd simply tell him this. "Don't confuse where you are with where God is taking you."

Why Beds, Clothing, and Community Outreach

People often ask why I care so deeply about families. Why beds matter to me. Why I care about clothing, school supplies, meals, or community outreach. The answer has very little to do with organization and business structure. It has everything to do with people. Because I know what it feels like to wonder if anyone sees you. I know what it feels like to long for family. I know what it feels like when people make assumptions about your future because of your past. That experience changed the way I see every person I meet.

When I look at a child sleeping on the floor... I don't just see a child who needs a bed. I see someone whose future has not yet been written. When I meet a parent asking for clothing assistance... I don't see someone looking for charity. I see someone carrying burdens they were never meant to carry alone. When I meet someone experiencing homelessness... I don't assume I know their story. Because I know how dangerous it can be when people mistake someone's circumstances for their identity.

More Than a Bed Ministry

That's the story behind Impact1More. People often think we're in the bed ministry. Or the Clothing Closet. Or school supplies. Or holiday outreach. Or feeding people experiencing homelessness. Those are the things we do. They are not who we are. Impact1More exists because compassion should never stop with the person who received it. Someone once prayed for me. Someone welcomed me. Someone believed in me before I believed in myself. Someone invested in a future they could not yet see. Today, we simply invite others to do the same.

When Strangers Become Neighbors

We call ourselves an outreach network because we believe communities become stronger when people stop serving alone. Imagine walking into one of our outreaches. You'll find pastors serving beside business owners. Teenagers laughing while assembling beds alongside retired grandparents. Teachers helping organize school supplies. Volunteers praying quietly with families they've just met. Churches from different backgrounds serving together instead of separately. Businesses using their success to invest in their communities instead of simply promoting themselves. Other nonprofits sharing resources and knowledge instead of competing for attention. Nobody is asking, "Whose ministry is this?" They're asking, "Who still needs hope?"

That's what Impact1More looks and feels like. It feels like community. It feels like belonging. It feels like strangers becoming neighbors. It feels like the Church being The Church. Some people come to volunteer because they want to help. Many leave realizing they were changed themselves. Some families come believing they'll receive clothing or a bed. Many leave remembering something much greater. They remember that someone knew their name. Someone listened. Someone prayed. Someone reminded them they still mattered.

Dignity, Hope, and Belonging — In That Order

Because while beds matter... Dignity matters more. While clothing matters... Hope matters more. While food matters... Belonging matters more. Our goal has never been simply to meet physical needs. Our goal is to remind people that they are deeply loved by other people, God, and that they don't have to walk through life alone.

A Continuation, Not a Beginning

Sometimes people thank me for founding Impact1More. The truth is... I don't see myself as the beginning of this story. I see myself as the continuation of someone else's obedience. A family prayed. Teachers encouraged. Churches welcomed. Mentors invested. Friends stayed. Ordinary people simply kept saying yes to God. None of them knew where those simple acts of faithfulness would lead. None of them knew that a teenager from an orphanage would one day spend his life helping others discover hope. None of them knew that their kindness would become part of a growing outreach network connecting churches, businesses, schools, nonprofits, volunteers, and families.

Only God could write a story like that. And maybe that's the greatest lesson my life has taught me. God rarely changes the world through people who think they are extraordinary. He changes the world through ordinary people who are willing to love one more person. Pray for one more family. Open one more door. Carry one more bed. Give one more gift. Welcome one more stranger. Encourage one more child. Impact 1 More life.

Impact1More

Because somewhere tonight, another young person is wondering if anyone sees them. Another family is praying for a miracle. Another volunteer is wondering whether one person can really make a difference. Another church is looking for a way to love its community. Another business is searching for a purpose greater than profit. Perhaps God is already weaving those stories together. Just as He once wove mine. And perhaps your simple act of obedience will become the answer to a prayer you may never hear.

That's the story behind Impact1More. It's not the story of one founder. It's not the story of one ministry. It's the story of an extraordinary God who still delights in using ordinary people to accomplish extraordinary things. One life at a time.
