LaKera Woodberry-Galloway Brings The Boy With The Super Charged Mind to Columbia, Inspiring Hope, Representation & Children’s Mental Health Awareness

USC graduate returns to the city that shaped her to uplift children's mental health and empower families.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Local author, mother of four, and mental health counseling graduate student LaKera Woodberry-Galloway is inviting families to a special community event celebrating her inspiring children's book, The Boy With The Super Charged Mind.

Inspired by her son's journey with ADHD, anxiety, and emotional regulation, the book shines a light on the emotional experiences of children who often feel unseen, misunderstood, or overlooked. Through storytelling, it encourages children to embrace who they are while helping parents better understand and support them.

More Than a Book Signing

This event is designed to be much more than a traditional author appearance.

Families can enjoy:

  • Interactive hands-on activity stations for children

  • Family-friendly games and activities

  • Emotional wellness resources

  • Opportunities to connect with other families

  • Complimentary snacks

  • A welcoming environment where children can feel seen, supported, creative, and celebrated

The event focuses on children's mental health, neurodiversity, emotional awareness, and building stronger family connections through conversation and community.

"Returning to Columbia means a great deal to me," says Woodberry-Galloway. "My time at the University of South Carolina shaped so much of who I am today as a woman, a mother, and a future therapist. Being able to bring this message here is meaningful because this city played a real role in my growth."

She continues:

"As a mom and a future therapist, I wrote this book because I didn't see stories that reflected kids like my son—children navigating big emotions, neurodiversity, and the pressure to stay strong without the tools. This book is bigger than us. It is about giving kids language for what they feel and giving parents a way to connect with them."

Why This Event Matters

Across the country, childhood anxiety, ADHD, and emotional challenges continue to rise. Many South Carolina families—particularly those with limited access to mental health resources—often navigate these challenges without the support they need.

Woodberry-Galloway hopes this event will encourage families to seek conversations, resources, and hope.

"This event is about hope, awareness, and letting families know they are not alone. Our kids deserve to be seen."
